For those of you who have been living in a cave, some big news came out from EMC yesterday that has the whole storage blog-o-tweet-o-news-osphere talking. In a splashy virtual news conference, the storage giant introduced its new Symmetrix V-Max storage virtualization system, garnering the same level of media attention as Cisco’s UCS did a month ago. Some of the better coverage/commentary, we thought, was:
Stephen Foskett – EMC Symmetrix V-Max Is Neither Monolithic Nor Midrange
Storagebod’s Blog – So No DMX5
Byte & Switch – Paul Travis on the V-Max
StorageSoup – Dave Raffo, EMC V-Max: V stands for bigger
After the big splash yesterday, some EMC bloggers had fun with the name V-Max:
Dave Graham’s Weblog – V-Max: What’s in a name?
Compares other products with the name V-Max, including a super charged Yamaha motorcycle and a rifle bullet.
Storagezilla – The V-Max Top Ten List
Explains why the name “Tigon” wasn’t used.
In all, a very successful launch. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the marketplace.
